Everyday companions and senior companions at home

Everyday help for older people near you – search and meet for free; you only pay when it really fits.

Someone who has time

For a walk, the shopping, a trip to the doctor or simply company: at the care-attendant Meeting Point you will find everyday companions and senior companions near you – often retired people who bring time, experience and patience.

You don't need to know any benefit types or legal paragraphs. You describe what you would like help with – we show you who fits, with shared interests and matching times.

What companions help with

No personal hygiene, no medication, no medical treatment care – that is what a home care service is for.

How to find support

  1. Describe your request – for example “Someone to go for walks with my father”. Without name or address.
  2. See suitable companions – with distance, shared interests and availability, and the reason why it could be a good fit.
  3. Ask to meet – as soon as the companion also wants to, the protected chat opens.
  4. Get to know each other – by phone, video or in person, ideally with someone you trust present.
  5. Decide – the match only applies once both sides agree. You are welcome to meet several people.

Frequently asked questions

What does searching cost?

Nothing. Creating a request, viewing profiles, showing interest and getting to know each other are free of charge. A one-off matching fee of €100 incl. VAT only applies when you and the companion both say after meeting: we would like to start. You will see the amount before you confirm.

How is the companionship organised afterwards?

After the match, you plan the appointments at the Meeting Point: day, time and activities. The companion sees them in their simple companion app, records start and end and writes a short note on how it went. You receive anything unusual immediately as a message. For a Minijob (marginal employment), the software makes sure the earnings limit is not exceeded.

Who employs the companion?

There are two ways: the companion works for a home care service, or you employ them yourself as a Minijob in a private household (household cheque scheme, Haushaltsscheck). In a private household, the contributions are 14.62% instead of 31.17% for commercial employers.

Does the long-term care insurance fund pay via the relief allowance?

The relief allowance (Entlastungsbetrag) of €131 per month (§ 45b SGB XI) is only reimbursed for recognised services – for example if the companionship is provided through a home care service or a service recognised under state law to support everyday life. As a rule, it does not apply to a privately employed companion.

How safe is it?

Companions only become visible once their identity has been verified. Until an agreement is reached, you see first name, age, town and interests – no address, no phone number. Messages are exchanged via a protected chat. For the first meeting, we recommend bringing someone you trust.

I live far away – does it still work?

Yes. You search by your parents' postcode, not your own, and get to know the companion by phone or video.

Note. Information on Minijob, the transition zone (Übergangsbereich/Midijob) and Aktivrente reflects the legal situation as of 2026 (checked on 2 October 2026 with the Minijob-Zentrale, the German Pension Insurance (Deutsche Rentenversicherung) and the Federal Ministry of Finance). It is general guidance and not tax or legal advice. The binding classification is made by the employer or their payroll.

You don't pay for searching

You only pay once you have found someone – a one-off €100 incl. VAT.
